Researcher Lucía Jiménez Ríos wins the First Runner-Up Award at the cicCartuja EbroFoods 2024 Prizes
On 31st of October of 2025 the award ceremony for the cicCartuja EbroFoods 2024 Prizes took place, an event created to recognize the scientific excellence of young researchers at cicCartuja in the early stages of their careers.
This year, predoctoral researcher Lucía Jiménez Ríos, a member of the Plant–Cyanobacteria Symbiosis Group, received the First Runner-Up Award for her work “Emerging nitrogen-fixing cyanobacteria for sustainable cotton cultivation”, which had previously been recognized as cicCartuja Article of the Month in June 2024.
The paper, notable for its detailed analysis of bacterial communities in crop soils, represents a significant advance in the field of agricultural biotechnology and environmental sustainability. Through this approach, the research precisely assessed microbial biodiversity, highlighting the ability of cyanobacteria to promote cotton growth through biological nitrogen fixation and plant hormone production.
