Researcher Christina Arvanitidou has been named the winner of the cicCartuja Article of the Month for March 2025
Recently, predoctoral researcher Christina Arvanitidou (Χριστίνα Αρβανιτίδου) has been awarded “the cicCartuja Article of the Month for March 2025” for her work “Multiomics integration unveils photoperiodic plasticity in the molecular rhythms of marine phytoplankton”. This study, focused on understanding diurnal and seasonal regulation in marine microbial ecosystems, will also compete for the cicCartuja EbroFoods Research Award 2025.
Published in The Plant Cell, the article provides a detailed insight into how marine phytoplankton, key players in global carbon and nutrient cycles, respond to daily and seasonal rhythms. Understanding the mechanisms that govern these responses will enable scientists to improve models of primary production and marine ecosystem dynamics, which are crucial for sustaining food webs and anticipating changes in a shifting environment.
