Cecilia Gotor Martínez takes office as Director of cicCartuja

Researcher Cecilia Gotor Martínez, from the Institute of Plant Biochemistry and Photosynthesis (CSIC), has assumed the directorship of the Isla de la Cartuja Scientific Research Centre, a joint research centre of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), the University of Seville (US), and the Regional Government of Andalusia. Noureddine Khiar El Wahabi has handed over the leadership of the centre to Cecilia Gotor after serving as director for four years.

About Cecilia Gotor

Cecilia Gotor is Principal Investigator of the Sulfur and Cyanide Metabolism and Signalling research group. She obtained her degree in Chemistry from the University of Seville in 1984 and earned her PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 1988 with a dissertation entitled “Regulatory and Immunological Studies of Glutamate Synthases in the Green Alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii.” She carried out postdoctoral research stays at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and Rutgers University.

She joined the CSIC in the 1990s at the Institute of Plant Biochemistry and Photosynthesis, where she continues her research today. Her work focuses on the study of sulfur metabolism and cellular signalling mediated by compounds such as hydrogen sulfide and cyanide. Alongside her research activities, she is actively involved in science outreach and communication through organizations such as the Spanish Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SEBBM).
