Research Interests

My research work has focused on the study of structure–function relationships in proteins, electron transfer in photosynthesis, and the biochemical and metabolic response to different types of stress, with the aim of improving primary photosynthetic production. My current research lines are:

  • Enhancement of photosynthetic activity in microalgae and development of new strains for applications in biotechnology and aquaculture. The goal is to obtain microalgal strains adapted to different types of stress, enabling the production of a variety of valuable compounds.

  • Metal homeostasis mechanisms in cyanobacteria. The aim is to understand how cyanobacteria respond to changes in metal availability, particularly iron and copper, through the characterization of the plastocyanin/cytochrome c6 regulatory system.

  • Genomic engineering of cyanobacteria for adaptation to flue gas utilization. The main objective is to develop cyanobacterial strains with metabolic capacities that increase and simplify the production of valuable compounds of interest by using a pollutant, such as flue gases, as a carbon source. using flue gases as a carbon source.
