Formation

Bachelor of Science (Biology) from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (1985) and PhD in Biology with honors cum laude from the same university.

Research Interests

During my predoctoral training period my research activity was focused on the role of Boron and Sodium on N2 fixation. After a stay at the University of Dundee, I rejoined as MCYT postdoc at IBVF (CSIC-US) studying the connection between C and N metabolism in cyanobacteria and then to the BIO-131 group that I lead since 2013. Participation in 16 R&D Projects of public calls (2 as PI and two as co-IP), one European project (responsible researcher), participation in 20 R&D contracts with Companies (9 as responsible researcher), 36 Publications, direction of 4 PhD Thesis and 10 Master’s Thesis. Two patents, one of them in exploitation. University teaching since the academic year 85-86 in Undergraduate, Graduate and Master’s Degrees. I am Head of the Department of Plant Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

My interest is focused on the production of compounds derived from microalgae: pigments, protein hydrolysates, polysaccharides and biofuels. We are implementing omics tools to unveil the mechanisms that control these processes
