Research Interests
After carrying out my research work on Nitrate Transport in the Cyanobacteria Synechococcus sp PCC7942, which led to my Doctoral thesis, in 1999, after selective tests, I joined the IBVF as technical staff. During that period I started up different equipment at the Institute, such as gas chromatographs and HPLC and developed several techniques, such as nitrogenase activity by determining ethylene, determination of intracellular levels of amino acids by fluorimetric (OPA) and spectrophotometric (PICT) methods; measurements of ADP glucose, beta-carotenes, organic acids, ectoine and hydroxyectoine, nitrate, identification by HPLC of the type of prosthetic group of a protein (FAD or FMN), etc. I also implemented different protein purification systems in which, a large number of recombinat proteins were purified (Histidine tag or fusion with GST) and molecular weight determination by gel filtration were made .
In 2004, two mass spectrometry equipments were acquired, Maldi-TOF and ion trap coupled to nanoHPLC (BRUKER) that were renewed in 2015 (SCIEX). In this context, in 2009 the Protein Analysis Service of the IBVF was created, of which I have been technically responsible until today. The techniques developed by me constitute the basis of the set of services offered by this facility: Determination of molecular masses, identification of proteins in gel or in solution by peptide fingerprint, massive proteins identification in cell extracts, relative quantification by Swath, etc.
