Formation
Graduate and Doctor in Biology from the University of Seville (Doctorate Award). Research stays at the Research Institute for Photosynthesis (UK) and at the John Innes Center (UK). My predoctoral work was focused on cyanobacteria and I am currently working on the study of developmental processes in plants and their interaction with carbon metabolism. I have participated in more than 45 research and infrastructure projects of which I was PI in 25.
Research Interests
In recent years, my interests have been focused on the study of the interconnection between carbon metabolism and developmental processes in plants through Molecular Biology and Molecular Systems Biology approaches. I have published works in ISI journals such as Cell, Current Biology, The Plant Cell, Plant Physyology, The Plant Journal, JBC, Curr Op in Plant Biology, Mol Plant, etc… Evaluator of ISI journals and editor of the journals Plants and Frontiers in Plant Science.
Our group has collaborated with several companies in the biotechnology sector and has produced an international patent that has been licensed.
Likewise, I have directed two projects with companies. I have directed 7 doctoral theses, more than 15 DEA/TFM works, and acted as Tutor in more than 20 Doctoral Theses and 15 DEA/TFM, teaching in Doctoral and Master’s Programs since 1987. I have been Dean of the Faculty of Biology (2015-2024) and director of the US Greenhouse Research Service for 30 years.
