Formation
- Degree in Biological Sciences. Years 1988-1993.
- PhD courses in the Plant Biochemistry and Molecular Biology program.
- PhD in Biology from the University of Seville. “Assimilation of Nitrate in the Model Legume Lotus japonicus. Year 1999.
Research Interests
During the completion of PhD, my research was centered on the study of nitrate assimilation in the model legume Lotus japonicus, in which nitrite reductase (NiR) was cloned and several photorespiratory mutants affected in glutamine synthetase (GS) were isolated. Later, in my postdoctoral phase, my work focused more on the study of starch synthesis, and specifically on obtaining transgenic wheat and barley with high starch content. Since 2004 I have been the head of the Advanced Optical Microscopy Facility of the IBVF-CSIC whose main function is to support research in the use of this technique, both to the research groups belonging to the IBVF and to external groups that need it.
