Equipment

The CICcartuja Biological Cultures Service makes use of different equipment placed in the Institute of Plant Biochemistry and Photosynthesis to carry out the tasks of growth and maintenance of the microorganism collections.
* Controlled environment chambers for growth of microalga and cyanobacteria: These culture chambers allow temperature control between 15 and 45 ºC, lateral and/or sagittal illumination with cool-light fluorescent tubes and the supply of different air-CO2 mix to liquid cultures.
* Controlled environment chambers for growth of higher plants: These plant chambers are able to control parameters as temperature (between 10 and 45 ºC), relative humidity, light intensity and photoperiod.
* Incubators with rotational agitation and temperature control in a range between -20 and -80ºC for Escherichia coli growth.
* Ultrafreezers -80 ºC for cryopreservation of microorganism strains.
* Nitrogen liquid ranger for cryopreservation of microorganism strains.
In addition, the service has several microorganism collections which are maintained in liquid or solid cultures or cryopreserved at very low temperature.
